In a move that deepens transatlantic connectivity, Iberia and Aerolíneas Argentinas have announced a new codeshare agreement that goes live on April 1, 2025. The partnership is set to significantly streamline travel between Europe and Argentina, while reinforcing the role of both carriers in their respective hubs—Madrid and Buenos Aires.

More Destinations, One Ticket
Thanks to the agreement, Iberia customers flying from Madrid to Buenos Aires can now connect to more than 30 destinations across Argentina using Aerolíneas Argentinas-operated domestic flights—all with a single ticket and baggage checked through to the final destination.
Likewise, passengers originating in Argentina will have access to Iberia’s extensive European network, with easy connections beyond Madrid.
This level of integration enhances passenger convenience and operational efficiency—particularly valuable in a market where long-haul connections are often paired with domestic legs.
Loyalty, Simplified
The codeshare also unlocks benefits for frequent flyers. Members of both airlines’ loyalty programs—Iberia Plus and Aerolíneas Plus—will be able to earn and redeem Avios or miles across the expanded network. This further aligns the partnership with modern expectations around loyalty and travel flexibility.
Strategic and Cultural Value
This isn’t just about network synergies. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the historical, cultural, and economic ties between Spain and Argentina.
Iberia CEO Fernando Candela noted:
“We are proud to partner with Argentina’s national carrier to improve connectivity and create more travel opportunities between our countries.”
The agreement also supports Argentina’s inbound tourism strategy, offering European travelers easier access to iconic destinations like Bariloche, Mendoza, Ushuaia, and El Calafate.
Why It Matters
s the aviation industry evolves in a post-pandemic world, smart alliances are becoming essential for network growth and customer retention—especially between long-haul and domestic-focused carriers. This Iberia–Aerolíneas Argentinas agreement is a textbook example of how strategic codeshares can unlock value for both airlines and passengers without the complexity of a joint venture.
With strong demand expected for leisure and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) traffic across the Atlantic, this partnership comes at just the right time.
