Key Points:

  • Passengers flying with Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) can now drop off luggage at Swiss Post locations the day before departure.
  • The service is currently in trial phase until mid-October at four Swiss cities: Zurich, Bern, Basel, and Lucerne.
  • Customers benefit from a 50% lower price compared to home pick-up options.
  • Powered by Airportr Technologies, the process is entirely digital and hardware-free.
  • The solution offers a scalable alternative for airport congestion and baggage flow management.

In a major step toward simplifying baggage logistics, SWISS has launched a new trial in partnership with Airportr Technologies, Swiss Post, and Swissport. Travelers can now drop off their bags at select Swiss Post offices one day prior to their flight—skipping home collection and airport queues altogether.

This customer-friendly, pre-flight baggage drop-off service is available at four Swiss Post locations—Zurich, Bern, Basel, and Lucerne—and is being trialed through mid-October 2025.

A Convenient, Cost-Effective Alternative

While traditional baggage collection from home offers convenience, it can be costly and isn’t always practical for travelers. The new drop-off model cuts the price by 50%, removing the need for first-mile logistics and giving passengers flexibility and peace of mind.

Booking is done directly through SWISS, with travelers completing a digital onboarding process. Upon arrival at the Swiss Post location, passengers present a QR code and Travel ID, which are scanned by the agent using Airportr’s mobile platform. The baggage is then sealed and securely transported to the flight.

Tech-Driven, Scalable, Hardware-Free

What makes this solution stand out is its entirely digital infrastructure—no kiosks or on-site hardware are required. This keeps the setup lightweight, cost-efficient, and scalable, making it ideal for airlines and airports under pressure during peak travel seasons.

Passenger and baggage reconciliation is handled automatically behind the scenes, maintaining full compliance with airline and security regulations.

Rethinking Airport Logistics

As airports face increasing demand and capacity challenges, innovations like this provide a blueprint for smarter, decentralized baggage handling. By shifting part of the baggage journey off-site, airports can ease pressure on infrastructure while offering passengers a smoother experience.

Kudos to SWISS, Swiss Post, Swissport, and the Airportr Technologies team for delivering another forward-thinking solution. For more information visit: https://airportr.com/en/v1-swiss/
