Farnborough, UK – 26/08/2024– Embraer has announced a series of groundbreaking improvements to its E-Jet series at the Farnborough Airshow 2024, signaling a new era of efficiency and versatility for the regional jet market. The enhancements apply to both the E1 and E2 models, promising significant benefits for airlines and passengers.

Enhanced Efficiency and Versatility for the E-Jet Series

Embraer’s E-Jet series, renowned for its adaptability and operational ease, is receiving a major upgrade. The original E1 models, including the E170 and E175, each offered seating capacities of up to 78 and 80 passengers, respectively. The newer E2 series builds on this foundation, with the E190 and E195 capable of accommodating up to 114 and 124 seats, respectively. Known as “The Profit Hunter,” the E2 series is designed to offer increased capacity and range while maintaining operational cost-efficiency.

Key Upgrades to the E2 Series

  1. Fuel Efficiency Improvements
The E2 series introduces an advanced engine bleed management system that enhances fuel efficiency by 2.5%. The E195-E2, in particular, will now consume 12.5% less fuel compared to its main competitor, providing substantial cost savings for airlines.
  2. Engine Performance Enhancements
Upgrades to the GTF engines on the E2 models will increase the time on wing by 10%. Optimized climb thrust reduces engine wear and tear, potentially saving operators approximately $0.5 million over a 15-year period.
  3. Extended Range
The E195-E2’s range has been boosted to 3,000 nautical miles, thanks to a newly certified Max Takeoff Weight of 62,500 kg and improved fuel efficiency. This expanded range allows for extended routes from major airports like London City and Santos Dumont.
  4. Cabin Optimization
The cabin design improvements on the E195-E2 now allow for an additional row of seats in most configurations. For example, an aircraft configured for 136 seats can now accommodate 140 passengers, with a maximum capacity of 146 seats. This increase is expected to generate additional revenue of up to $4.5 million per aircraft over a 15-year period.

Upgrades for the E1 Series

  1. Avionics and Systems Enhancements
The E1 series will receive updates to align its avionic systems with those of the E2 models. This includes a new generation of weather radar, which features advanced turbulence detection, predictive windshear capabilities, and 3-D volumetric scanning. The new technology is expected to roll out by Q2 of 2026.
  2. Cabin and Connectivity Improvements
The E175 will be equipped with satellite connectivity for the first time, supporting both Ku-band and Ka-band options, with retrofits available starting in 2026. Additionally, both E1 and E2 models will offer updated RECARO seats and enhanced overhead luggage compartments, which will now accommodate larger items and increase storage capacity.

Looking Ahead

The E2 family remains a top choice for airlines seeking efficient, versatile aircraft. With a focus on reducing emissions by over 30% compared to previous generations, the E2 is positioned as one of the most eco-friendly single-aisle aircraft in commercial service. Embraer’s roadmap includes making the E2 fully compatible with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a significant step toward greener aviation.
